Peter’s saxophone trios Currents (2009) and Reflections (2011) were performed at the World Saxophone Congress in St. Andrews Scotland by the Trio Bel Canto. Cellist Nicholas Jones with the Orion Symphony Orchestra and guest conductor Franz Anton Krager presented the world premiere of his Cello Concerto (2012) at Musicfest in Aberystwyth Wales. The Cello Concerto is now published by Keiser Classical.

TXGQ

World Premieres of two commissioned works took place in October. Greenspace (2012), for triple string quartet received its premiere with the Cassatt Quartet and members of the Texas A&M University Orchestra. The Texas Guitar Quartet (TXGQ) gave the premiere of Tracks (2012).

Peter is currently working on a Chamber Symphony for the Georgian Chamber Orchestra. The new work will be premiered in Ingolstadt, Germany in October 2013.

Other commissions include works for the Brazos Breeze Flute Choir and the Iridium Saxophone Quartet. Peter is also composing a sonata for violin and piano for violinist Andrzej Grabiec and pianist Timothy Hester that will be premiered in June 2013.

2011

Gulfstream (2007) for violin, clarinet, cello and piano, has been released on the Naxos CD “Gulfstream”. The disc, performed by Enhake, includes works by Libby Larsen, Peter Schickele and Aaron Copland. Gulfstream is now published by Keiser Classical.

SOLI

The SOLI Chamber Ensemble presented the world premiere of Overland Dream (2011) for violin, clarinet, cello and piano in Arlington, Texas in June. SOLI has recorded this work for a future CD release.

Guitarist Isaac Bustos gave 12 performances of Peter’s Sonata for Guitar (2009) throughout the US and Latin America this year. Isaac has recorded this work for a future CD release.

Windjammer (2009) received its Latin American premiere by the Mexico City Woodwind Quintet at the XXXIII Foro Internacional De Musica Nueva in June.

Trio Bel Canto

The Trio Bel Canto performed and recorded Currents (2009) for alto sax, tenor sax and piano in Louisville, Kentucky in November

Peter is writing a new cello concerto for British cellist Nicholas Jones and the Orion Symphony Orchestra. The concerto will be premiered at the Aberystwyth International Music Festival in Wales next summer.

2010

Peter's quartet Gulfstream (2007), for violin, clarinet, cello and piano received 14 performances in 2009-10. The emerging chamber ensemble, Enhake performed the work throughout the US including a performance at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. Enhake has recorded Gulfstream for future release on Naxos. The Soli Chamber Ensemble performed Gulfstream twice in San Antonio.

Concerto

The world premiere of Peter's Concerto for Piano, Marimba and Orchestra (2008) was presented on May 12 in the Moores Opera House at the University of Houston. Pianist Leonel Morales (Spain) and his brother, marimbist Jesus Morales (Mexico) performed the concerto with Franz Anton Krager conducting the Texas Music Festival Orchestra. The work was recorded for future release on Albany.

Violinist Borislava Iltcheva presented several performances of Phoenix (2009) for solo violin on her summer tour of Croatia and Greece. Duo Ahlert & Schwab premiered Rivulets (2009) for guitar and mandolin in Hannenklee, Germany in May. Guitarist Isaac Bustos commissioned Peter's Sonata for Guitar (2009) which he premiered at the Guitar Foundation of America International Convention and Competition in Austin in June.

Peter has been named the Texas Music Teachers Association Commissioned Composer for 2011. He will compose a new work for the Soli chamber ensemble which will be premiered at the TMTA convention next summer in Arlington.

2007

A CD of Peter Lieuwen's music has been released on the Albany label. The recording includes Living Waters (1996) for orchestra; Anachronisms (1987) for Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Cello and Piano; Concerto for Violin and Orchestra (2001) and River of Crystal Light (1999) for Clarinet, Harp, Piano and Strings. The CD features clarinetist David Campbell, violinist Andrzej Grabiec, and the University of Houston Moores School and Texas Music Festival Orchestras with Franz Krager conducting.

May 2007

Astral Blue, commissioned by the Leipzig Academic Orchestra, is scheduled to receive its world premiere at the Gewandhaus with Horst Forster conducting.

March 2007

Peter Lieuwen will be a guest composer at The University of New Mexico Composer's Symposium. His Wind Quintet, Savannah (1990) will be performed by the New Mexico Winds.

July 2006

Peter Lieuwen participated as an artist-in-residence at the Aberystwyth International Music Festival (Musicfest) in Wales. His clarinet concerto River of Crystal Light (1999) was performed by the Musicfest International Orchestra with clarinetist David Campbell. He also presented a jazz piano concert with the Peter Lieuwen Trio, and taught a composition course with Welsh composer John Metcalf.

September 2005

An array of professional cellists from around the US performed Peter Lieuwen’s cello octet Ghost Ranch in College Station, Texas. Performing cellists included David Bjella, Diane Chaplin, Anthony Elliot, Chris French, David Garrett, Josh Gindele, Prudence McDaniel, and Stan Sharp.

July 2005

Solaris, commissioned by Grosseto Symphony Orchestra, received its world premiere outdoors at Cassero Senese, a 15th-century castle ruin in Grosseto, Italy. The work received a second performance in Saronno. Franz Krager conducted both performances.

June 2005

Peter Lieuwen’s clarinet concerto, River of Crystal Light was performed in College Station and Houston, Texas as part of the 2005 Texas Music Festival (TMF). David Campbell was the clarinet soloist with Franz Krager conducting the TMF Orchestra. River of Crystal Light has been recorded by Mr. Campbell and the TMF Orchestra for future release on the Albany label.
