CHAMBER SYMPHONY (2013)

GEORGIAN CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

CHAMBER SYMPHONY (2013) - 23 min.

2,2,2,2/2,4,1/timp./2 perc./piano/strings

Written for the Georgian Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Symphony takes as its inspiration, the text from Shen khar venakhi - Thou art a vineyard, an ancient Georgian Orthodox hymn to the Theotokos (Mary, the Mother of God).

While the harmonic language of the music is decidedly 21st century, it is intended to embody the timeless themes of love and nature as embraced in the original text to Shen Khar Venakhi, written by King Demetre I of Georgia (c. 1093–1156). The composer of the original hymn is unknown.

Chamber Symphony was premiered by the Georgian Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Franz Anton Krager on October 17, 2013 in Igolstadt, Germany.
